A comparative and dynamic analysis of political party positions on energy technologies

Despite growing scholarship on the politics of sociotechnical transitions, role aparticularly relevant actor type – political parties has been largely overlooked. To address this gap, we examine party position change energy technologies and related policy instruments, analyze how these positions co-evolve with technological change. Based a novel dataset, map in Germany, France, United Kingdom, 1980–2017. We find that changes their salience vary across families, correlate broader transition pathways identified by previous studies. discover moderated system characteristics path dependence results from ‘technological learning’ based changing issue technologies. discuss relevance our findings for transitions provide avenues future research.
